Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin issue that acts like a persistent form of dandruff. It primarily targets oily areas of your body, including your scalp, the sides of your nose, your eyebrows, your eyelids, your ears, and your chest.
The condition happens because of an inflammatory reaction—a natural defense response where your skin gets irritated and swollen—to a common yeast called Malassezia that lives on everyone's skin. While it can be annoying, it is not a sign of poor hygiene, and you cannot catch it from someone else.
Common Symptoms
- Greasy or oily scales on the skin that look white or yellow.
- Flaky skin or dandruff on the scalp, eyebrows, beard, or mustache.
