The prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It sits just below the bladder, which is the organ that holds your urine, and wraps around the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of your body.
As men age, this gland naturally begins to grow larger. Because the prostate surrounds the urethra, this extra growth can squeeze or pinch the tube like a kinked garden hose, making it harder for urine to flow freely from the bladder.
